Calibration of a TG measuring system
How can one be sure that the measuring system measures correctly?
During the measurement of bulges, depressions and runout 2 methods
were established.
- Examination of the measuring system with a prepared tire
- Examination of the measuring system with an aluminum wheel
Prepared tire
A tire is provided with an artificial bulge. In addition in the intended measuring
track a curved rubber surface is up-vulcanized.
Subsequently, with the measuring system one measures. The result is examined by the application of a mechanical dial
gauge.
Aluminum wheel with defined runout as well as inserts of bulges and
depressions

For RFP-4 and RFP-5 systems of SEICHTER GmbH in the meantime the wheel from aluminum
is an accepted calibrating tool. It is manufactured after customer's request. For the
bulges and depressions there are standardized inserts.

An aluminum wheel is designed in such a way that it can be installed into the rim
holder of the measuring machine. The middle mounting hole of this aluminum wheel
is for example arranged around 0.3 mm eccentrically. Thus a radial runout of 0.6 mm
results.

Construction after customer's specification: calibrating tool from aluminum
On the upper side wall an insert is fastened with an artificial bulge. On the lower surface is an artificial
depression.

This arrangement is ideal both for capacitive sensors and for laser sensors
of SEICHTER GmbH.

The aluminum wheel can be calibrated and/or it is easily examinable with calibrated mechanical measuring systems.
